Is there a bus or train that goes from Marietta to Sandy Springs & Atlanta?

No.

There is probably a way to do it involving Cobb County transit and transfers to MARTA, but no direct route.

Some of us believe there should be, but not yet. CCT does have bus routes that go to the Cumberland Exchange near the Cumberland Mall, and you can hook up with MARTA from there to go downtown. Perhaps MARTA could also be used to get from Marietta to Sandy Springs, but that would be a very very indirect route via Atlanta.

Sort of, if you're near a CCT line. Just be prepared for some potentially VERY lengthy transfers.

It's going to suck and will probably take about two hours. You will have to take cct to Cumberland mall. Then catch a connector that goes all the way downtown. Then catch Marta rail from downtown to Sandy springs. Then probably take a bus from the station to where ever you're going. Pretty ridiculous that you have to go all the way downtown just to get to what would take all of 10 minutes on 285\400 right?

I had a coworker that used to make that voyage but in reverse every morning and came in pissed off at how the trip took so long. This is why with the pathetic transportation system we have here I can't ever see myself giving up a car.

Marietta to Sandy Springs is not as bad as it seems, depending on where you are trying to go in Sandy Springs. The 10 goes from Marietta to the Cumberland Transfer station then to the MARTA Arts Center station in North Midtown. See below. So that's one bus.
And you don't go all the way downtown you go to Arts Center station so the bus gets off at 14th street thus usually avoiding the connector traffic since the exit ramp is before the 85/75 merge.
Once at the Arts Center station you get on the next Northbound Red line and until 7pm they run every 15 minutes (after 7pm you have to take the Gold line to Lindberg (the next station north and then catch the red line train there which comes minutes after the Gold line train (visa versa South bound). The train ride from Arts Center to Sandy Springs MARTA station is quick since Arts Center is the northern most midtown station - its only 20 minutes.
Cobb County Government
CCT Route 10
Operates from Marietta to the Cumberland Boulevard Transfer Center via U.S. 41, then to the MARTA Arts Center Station. (Monday - Saturday)
Route 10 Outbound - From Marietta Transfer Center to MARTA
Route 10 Inbound - From MARTA to Marietta Transfer Center

Even though Sandy Springs is a lot closer to Marietta than Atlanta, it is actually easier and quicker to travel via public bus from Marietta to Atlanta than it is to Sandy Springs because CCT (Cobb Community Tranist) operates a direct bus, Route 10 which goes from the CCT Transfer Station (which is located behind Cumberland Mall near Macy's) to the MARTA Arts Center Station in Midtown Atlanta. Once you are at the Arts Center Station, you can then take the MARTA train north to Sandy Springs or south to Downtown Atlanta and the Airport.

And once again im telling you that the average time of that trip is going to be 2 hours. I had a coworker that did it every single day.
