You could do that commute in an hour if you go to work fairly early, and either leave early or leave later in the day. I live East of 575 around the same distance from the highway (we're in Harmony on the Lakes) as Bridgemill is West, and if I leave my house by 6am, I can be in downtown (off Exit 249D) by 7am or slightly after. If I leave at 6:30, it's closer to 8am. You'd be starting from the same place, but you'd be getting off of 75 around 5 miles further North, so your commute may be slightly shorter (when you add in the time from 75 to Powers Ferry).

In the afternoon, if I leave the office by 4:30, I can be home before 6 pretty easily. If I leave at 5:30, it's more like 7pm.

IMO, while I'd love to have a 10-minute commute to work, I'll tolerate the commute time to be able to give my kids a brand new home in a swim/tennis community with pretty good schools and cows in the fields on the ride to school. In addition, the traffic in around the area we live is minimal, so other than the commute to work, we don't have to deal with traffic much at all. Some of the folks who live in places like Roswell, Alpharetta, etc., may have shorter commutes, but they make up for it by having to sit in traffic every time they want to go to dinner or a movie.

It's all about tradeoffs.....

Bob

hello bob,

thanks for the info regarding the traffic. does the traffic move slowly or is it just backed up parking lot traffic...

also we saw a community called crestmont, of off sixes road....any info on that for us???

what other communites would be worth looking into....we would like a safe, family oriented community...

i guess if we want this type of lifestyle we will have to deal with the commute.....

The traffic depends- sometimes its a slow, stady crawl, and sometimes its "stop dead for a minute, move 20 feet. Stop dead for a minute, move 20 feet" kinda traffic. If there's an accident, all bets are off.

I've driven past Crestmont, but I don't know anything about it. I know that Bridgemill is absolutely huge- something like 3 or 4 thousand homes, which was a bit too big for me.

You can look at Harmony on the Lake- it's in a more rural part of the county than the others (though there's alot of development coming near the north entrance), which we really like. If you go out the south entrance toward the school, you pass cows in a field, and if you turn left out of that entrance, there's a dairy farm a mile up the road, and a field with donkeys and a llama. I know it's sort of corny that we look at those things as being "important", but it's just something that adds to the charm of the area. IMO, it'll be many years before the south entrance road (Hickory Road) builds up, so we'll have that nice rural feel while still having the conveniences of shopping at the other end of the development (there's three shopping centers about two miles up the road from there with a Publix supermarket, CVS, Walgreens, fast food, a few restaurants, etc).

Any idea how much house you're looking for and what kind of $$ you want to spend?

Bob
