Do you dispute your property taxes every year?

For those who need it, here is the Fulton county dispute form (its due in a few days for most residential properties)

Coming from Long Island NY where the average property tax is $8,000-$14,000!!! I am glad to write Fulton Co a check for $4,500....lol I know time are hard on homeowners right now and everyone wants to pay less property taxes but remember that your property tax funds your school. If the schools get less money every year, it will effect your property valve on your home.

I did my first for a condo we bought last year that has a tenant in it.

Was valued at $111k. We bought it for $36.5k. We are hoping our bill will be cut in half. Filled out form as well as printed up 3 comps in the same building at $60k...also attached a copy of our deed showing the price paid. That was Fulton.

Our home is Dekalb. Oddly enough, they gave us a 25% discount this year without even asking for it. WIN!

It's one thing to raise a millage rate (as I have argued elsewhere) and quite another to arbitrarily overassess individual properties while not doing so for others. The first is fair even if perceived as expensive, the latter is thievery based on some unknown criteria. And Fulton county BoE is the largest group of organized crime there is IMO.

Obviously a bit of rhetoric above, but I am fed up of the whole Fulton County thing and the very mention makes me barf. O Milton county, where art thou?

I just heard back from Gwinnett county.

They reduced my home 5.75%, which is totally in line with what I was asking for and what is fair.

They reduced it a lot more than that last year.

I figure it's good to have it at as low a value as possible because sure enough they will raise the millage rate eventually.

I know people who purposely want their house valued highly, though for what reason I have no idea. I thoroughly researched the topic with financial and real estate professionals and learned that having a high tax burden does absolutely nothing for your value. The value is what it is and its completely irrelevant what the government says, so if you think you raise your home value by being taxed heavily for it, nope. If the government says your house is worth $5, great for you! It will still sell at its true market value.

Gwinnett has been extremely easy to deal with in this process. I even got a call from the tax assessor personally last year. I have no problem with the appealed value of my home, it's completely fair. It should at least save me a couple hundred bucks or so.
