College scene? I'm not sure what that even means besides that there are some colleges located in Atlanta. So what? Atlanta is no Boston.

Entrepreneurial spirit? Atlanta is no more known for that than any other American city.

Cultural flavor spanning beyond contrary to popular belief? Well, according to your original post, what is contrary to popular belief is irrelevant. We both agree that perception is reality, and perception, according to you, is tricked-out cars.

Atlanta is in a death-spiral. A kitsch remake of a 1980s John Hughes film is not going to reverse that.

More like hyperbolic. Atlanta's not dying either.

Boston is the epitome. Still, Atlanta's college/university base is very good.

You're acting like the AUC (Morehouse, Spelman, Clark), Georgia Tech, GSU, and Emory don't attract people. No, Atlanta isn't a traditional college town, but there is no denying that these schools bring their own flavor to the city of Atlanta and has helped to shape the city, especially the AUC and Georgia Tech. You're right that perception is reality, but your perception is not the next mans reality. While Atlanta has been pumping out a ton of crappy music lately, it has traditionally pumped out very decent acts (Goodie mob, TLC, Outkast, Usher, etc) which has had a positive impact on Atlanta's image. But like i said before, every place doesn't have to be like East Village to be viewed as successful.

Obviously this base is not good enough, as it has not prevented Atlanta's lofty descent from one of the nation's best economic performers to one of its worst.

Now that might vault Atlanta's Dragon*Con past San Diego's Comic-Con.
That is a great idea-plus include parts of Atlanta's indie arts and music scene and it might work.

Of course the fact that Atlantas main economic driver having to do with housing had nothing to do with this.

Atlanta doesn't need people, it needs jobs.

While the effect is there, it's minimal. Atlanta is known for its uneducated citizens, not its educated ones.

Was it not you that declared what Atlanta is known for and what it is not? I simply agreed that Atlanta is not known for intellectualism, let alone coffee shops.

Atlanta may be viewed as successful by some people because it's where Usher was born or where Lisa Lopes burned a house down, but statistics show that it is not succeeding; indeed, it is failing, and at an alarmingly fast rate.
