I think these are some of the same issues being faced by most major cities today.

"Part of the problem is because we grew so fast for so long that even when we settled down, it doesn't feel normal," said Roger Tutterow, a Mercer University economics professor..."

"The old model of, 'Let's spend most of our time trying to get companies to relocate here,' is not a bad model, and we need to continue to do that," said John Brock, the chief executive of Coca Cola Enterprises. "But we need to put in place an ecosystem in metro Atlanta that's all about job creation from new metro Atlanta startups..."

Garbage. I bet Tutterow has never run a successful, locally based, nationally focused business. Attracting new business will organically create spin off's & support industries. This is nothing new, and I think (or hope) that this is what Brock was referring to.

Atlanta's a natural for business. A favorable business climate, low cost of living, easy access to the rest of the nation via rail, auto (truck) and air, and a reputation that has already been cemented. Atlanta is FAR from being in a crisis. Just a typical Cox ploy to move papers/get eyes on tv/ears on radio.

Sounds more like Atlanta is waiting for the country's economy to recover. Charlotte is a young Atlanta and they are worse off. Atlanta has been compared to Dallas but it looks as if they are two very different business climates.

Finally, business boosters are acknowledging reality. Atlanta is in dire straights, and no one can deny that. Whether Atlanta recovers, becoming stronger than ever, or completely unravels is unknown at this point, with economic indicators supporting both outcomes with equal likelihood.
