The state wanted to remove the tolls but finally yielded to intense pressure from residents and businesses around GA400, who insisted that road be finished before the tolls were taken off. The main terminus of 400 at I-85 had only been half built! The result was horrendous congestion, as zillions of motorists had to get off of 400 and wind around local streets to get back on 85. It was a nightmare for people in that area, with ramifications for miles in both directions.

If they'd pulled tolls off before even finishing the road, now THAT would have been a colossal breach of promise!!!

But it's a little scary you can always count on people to vote themselves a tax increase if they are convinced it's for roads or schools..
Are roads and schools worth investing in?

Why doesn't the Atlanta metro fund those critical infrastructure elements as part of the regular budget instead of having to do special taxes all the time?

So he is suggesting that Cobb vote this down and do its own TSPLOST at some point in the future?

I'm not arguing with that, just asking if that's what he's saying.

Well, Cobb has done multiple TSPLOSTs in the past to good effect. Why not another one?

Don't know the region or its politics, but the tone of that article is crazy insular - while also being pretty optimistic in the "Well. . .something better should come along - for us!"

I don't really have an opinion on it, RC, I was just trying to understand his point.

Theoretically there's no reason why each county and municipality can't go its own way. That's probably less effective from the regional standpoint but so be it. There's no law saying we have to look at the big picture or fret about what some other county is doing.

How the hell is this a backdoor for MARTA into Cobb? MARTA can not operate outside of fusion and dekalb. This is such a bsquare opinion article. Cobb pkwy has the density to support LRT or BRT and it will ease congestion on that corridor while bring in more people who cannot drive to use the businesses along the corridor. Everyone had multiple chances to attend town hall meetings about the projects. If residents of Cobb feel they didn't get input then that's their fault. I attended 2 meetings, what's wrong with Cobb residents?

Maybe everybody doesn't read the news or watch TV every day. Sure, the meetings have been going on for a couple of years, but the part about having to vote on it just came up.

It used to be that people in Cobb could trust their elected officials, and many folks probably felt that the Chamber of Commerce wouldn't be pushing this if it wasn't good for Cobb County. So it's easy to understand why they feel tomahawked by this sudden need to vote.
