Hello all,

I am a 22 year old mother of a 5 month old and am looking to move to atlanta within the next 6 months. I am looking for an area where I can feel safe to be with my son on my own(I might be moving with just him and not his father), looking for good daycares, and eventually elementary schools if i like the area. Nice and affordable apartments, low crime, etc. Space/open land isnt really an issue just yet because my son is a baby. My son is half black(mother) and half white(father). We currently live in small town Warner Robins,GA and experience a lot of stares and such in public but only a few instances have occured in his father and our three years of dating. I want an area in atlanta where we can go out to eat, grocery shopping, mall etc and not get stares and harrased. I am also having trouble finding work in my degree field (English-writing) here. My options are..teach, teaching, teacher lol. I'd like more opportunity to write and make money from it. I am thinking technical writing which can earn me up to 80,000 a year. I have been doing some research and these are the areas I am considering. They are arranged from what I want the most to what I want the least:

1. Lawrenceville
2. Norcross
3. Dunwoody
4. Decatur
5. Marietta

1. Budget-for an apartment ($500-$900)
2. House/Condo/Townhome? (apartment)
3. Employment Status (looking for areas that i can find work in my degree field(english-writing))
4. Children(public school vs. private) (great daycare/public elementary school)
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two (I prefer suburban with easy access to urban areas)
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? (I have a car so transit isnt a huge issue but o DO NOT want to commute)
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. (Looking for a diverse area(black, white, indian, asain, hispanic, african, etc). I want to blend in and here in warner robins we stick out like sore thumbs)

Here are my biggest factors
affordable living
Safe area
good daycare
suburban area with easy access to urban areas

Does such a place exist in atlanta??

Suburban area with access to urban area without commuting? That does not exist. Transit is almost non existent outside of Fulton and DeKalb Counties. Your price range will not fly in Dunwoody or Decatur, the only areas on your list with transit stations.
Gwinnett County is very diverse, with good schools, but you have to commute.
Biracial families are not a big deal in Atlanta, so you will not get the stares.
Good luck.

Find a job first then you can decide where to move. Otherwise you may choose an area and end up driving across the metro for work.
