So I've been offered a job at GSU and I have a couple of questions.
First, I'm married but the wife will not be moving down right away.
I want to rent an apartment and I want to be close to MARTA. I currently live in Cincinnati and I enjoy a more urban lifestyle.
So what are some decent and affordable neighborhoods I should look at?
Thanks.

I would shoot for Midtown. Close enough to downtown to do all of that stuff, but slightly less cramped environment

Around the North Springs station there are many apartments and you can walk to the MARTA rail station. There are also apartments around Lindbergh and Lenox stations. You can reach most of what you need using MARTA rail and it goes straight to GSU. MARTA rail is the most reliable part of MARTA and rail gives you early morning to around 1 AM service.

Look along the east line. Neighborhoods like: Old 4th Ward, Cabbagetown, Edgewood, Kirkwood. All areas are safe, close to MARTA and affordable. GSU has a station along the east-west line.
