I love the Grant Park area and everyone talks about how great the charter school is, but what about high school aged kids? All of Grant Park is zoned for Maynard Jackson and I just can't imagine sending my daughter to such a poorly regarded school. What are other Grant Park parents doing? Private school?

Most non-blacks wouldn't send their kids to Maynard Jackson. Private school is the best alternative, I guess for people that don't want to send their kids to MJ

And yet, it's only 5 or 6 miles from Grady, which is one of the best high schools in the state. Such a shame.

This relates to that other thread about schools in town. Even many of the expensive neighborhoods don't have good schools all the way through.

I don't think this is unique to Atlanta. How many major cities have decent public high schools, even in nice areas?

I've been hoping to see some recent comments on Grant Park and pros and cons of the area as all the posts about Grant Park are older. Any comments from those who live there or are considering it. Is the elementary school good enough for you if you don't get into the Charter school.

I know some of the parents of younger children are trying to lay the groundwork to improve Jackson in the coming years. Of course this does not help those who have high school aged children today.

Several good eastside neighborhoods will be joining Grant Park at Jackson. The parents of Toomer and Whitefoord, which have managed to improve the elementary schools, are committed to improving middle and high schools to form another grady like cluster in SE Atlanta.

A name change to Grant Park High School would go a long way in improving the image.

How far in the future might this occur?

Also, we are currently living with my boyfriend in Midtown and most likely will be here through the beginning of the school year. Would my daughter be allowed to remain at Grady for the remainder of the year if we end up buying a home in another district? I tried calling the APS offices all week but I only got a real person once and they weren't able to answer all of my questions.
