i have to admit, at first i hated the symphony tower, i thought it looked too modern and overdone for the midtown skyline. but now i've really warmed up to it— the retail all around the bottom level, and man, the approach on 14th street. i'm telling you guys, this is going to be like those famous pictures you see of new york that everyone immediately recognizes, once midtown fills in. check this out:

the symphony tower is the horned one in the middle, if you aren't familiar with it.

however, a lot of their other buildings i think are really lacklustre. like "the pinnacle" in buckhead, it's been there for 10 or so years and i still think it looks preposterous, with little street level interaction, it just seems like a suburban office building:

i don't feel either way about their works in allen plaza (ernst+young and the w hotel), they just seem kind of "meh" to me:

what do y'all think?

***** ("P.icka") -- what a truly bizarre word for C-D to auto-censor

If anyone would like to turn in the correct word/spelling of the building to me (using spaces in-between the letters) via DM then I can look into it and let the appropriate people know. Note - do not rant about it in the room. Stick to the topic of the building per the OP post.

I've been a fan of 1180 since before it was topped out. I must disagree with your point about it fitting in with the surrounding buildings as it fit in quite well with the Modern skyline of Midtown. It would have been more out of place in Downtown.

I've personally always been a fan of the Pinnacle. There's a certain elegance to it.

I'm definitely "meh" about Allen Plaza. It's a million times better what was(n't) there before, but none of the buildings "move" me.

It seems that Atlanta Skyline looks more modern the more north it flows. The GP building is an international style, International style (architecture) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 191 and SunTrust are more post-modern, Postmodern architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Allen Ivan is filled with glass and steel buildings that ease the skyline from the stone architecture of Downtown to the more modern, glass filled buildings of Midtown and Buckhead.

I wish other cities had such great expression in architecture (especially the new buildings in the last 10 years) like Atlanta. Other cities are just too damn conservative with their new buildings, especially the north. How ironic.
