are there any areas with notable dog parks? Is there in particular decent and progressive a neighborhood with a dog park in walkable distance? Thinking of moving, and I have a toy poodle who loves to socialize with other dogs.

There are lots of dog parks throughout Atlanta , in general I would say that Atlanta is a dog friendly city

The two more notable ones are:

Piedmont Park Dog Park
PPC - Piedmont Dog Park
Newtown Dream Dog Parl
Johns Creek, Georgia - Johns Creek, GA: Recreation & Parks | Newtown Dog Park

One thing I like about Piedmont is that they maintain separate parks for small and large dogs.

I also like the dog park at Mason Mill Park (off Clairmont Rd. in North Decatur).

The Atlanta area could use a lot more dog parks, however. Up with pups!

The Norcross area has very accommodating parks for dogs, so do Alpharetta and Johns Creek. For these suburban areas, you would need to drive to them unless your house was simply very close to the park.

One thing about dogs is they love riding in the car. Of course they are also great walkers. So they are readily adaptable to both urban and suburban environments.

Gwinnett county has a number of them. There is Windermere dog park in forsyth county and laurel park up in gainesville.
(Just a few that nobody has named)

We are actually putting in a dog park in our subdivision too. We will be the only subdivision in atlanta with a private dog park. It's centrally located to all the homes in here. You asked for a progressive neighborhood, I only know of one republican in here. In 2008 it was only obama yard signs in here.

Nice, now that is pretty cool for dog owners (dog park in your subdivision). And most dogs do love riding in cars.

Can someone also help me out with a Dog Park out in the Smyrna area. I have (3) dogs and we visited Cobb Park before but unfortunately we were the only ones out with dogs. I would love to have my dogs in an area with more dogs to play around instead of taking them to Doggie Day Camp at Petsmart.

City of Smyrna has 2 dog parks

Burger Park and Lake Court Park

City of Smyrna : Dog Parks

I don't think they are very elaborate
