It's not laziness. It's safety. There's more perceived and probably realistic safety when you have not only continuous zero lot development, but people other then yourself walking on the streets something
Atlanta heavily lacks.

Example, this is about 1/2-3/4 mile away from a BART Station in SF: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=San+f...163.56,,0,-9.6

This is 1/2-3/4 mile away from a MARTA station in Atlanta: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=atlan...176.01,,0,2.66

Just by looking at the 2, you can see SF just has much more going on then Atlanta. From looking that, I would think I were in the boonies somewhere.
Well your cherry picking street views. There are locations that look exactly like the SF street view at the same distance in Atlanta.

You find a lot of on street parking in the historic steetcar suburbs. https://maps.google.com/?ll=33.74963...178.47,,0,2.63
Apparently you don't get the concept of per capita.

There are very few areas of Atlanta that look like that.

Yeah they're called historic streetcar suburbs!

I mean, is your solution to have everyone standing at a streetcar stop for 30 minutes until there's a large enough crowd to fill it to capacity so as to not overload the streets?
Wrong, streetcars cost less to operate than buses. Go look at the budgets of existing light rail operators.

I can pick almost any street in SF and it would look like that....the same can't be said for Atlanta....Both of them are about the same distance from the CBD...

Look, I'll be more fair and more in favor of Atlanta...this is roughly half a mile from Downtown Atlanta: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Atlan...275.77,,0,0.74

Here Sf from roughly 2 miles away from the CBD: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=San+F...84.09,,0,-0.37

Non Cherry picking...in fact, that SF street is residential, not commercial. I'd still rather walk through that SF neighborhood then Edgewood.

Sure, after you discount the huge upfront capital cost.

SF is limited, by water. Atlanta has no natural barriers. SF has well developed before the rise of the car.

Of course you're not cherrypicking. San Francisco has a population density of over 17,000 ppsm whereas Atlanta has a density of 3,200.

Chicago isn't limited by water on all sides, yet it has dense neighborhoods like Lincoln Park. It can spread in all directions except East. No excuse for Atlanta.

Total cost, is still total cost no matter when it's spent. a $10 meal that I pay $8 for up front then $2 at the end still costs the same as a $10 meal that I pay $2.50 for, four times.
