Public / Private partnership. But I don't think the details have been defined yet.

But even if it cost zero tax dollars don't doubt the ability for influential parties to shoot it down as "wasteful spending" if they don't like it: Backed by a billionaire, Proposal 6 fights second bridget to Windsor - The Michigan Daily

That building will best Atlanta's Bank of America building in height.

I don't think that applies in our case. What big money interests want to stop it? Besides, that Detroit project will hinge on whether or not the voters support Proposal 6.

I really hope the MMPT happens. It has the potential to be a major force for revitalization downtown.

With the recent talk of the fake casino going in in Gwinnett, I can't help but think that if we had a real casino built at underground and had commuter lines feeding into the station, it could easily become a popular option for "stay-cations". Obviously they are going to have to clean the area up, but that has a lot of potential.

If they could go through with turning all of Alabama St into a pedestrian only corridor (would only require one additional block) they could really make downtown into a destination. Exit the MMPT and within Obese American walking distance you have the Ga Dome, GWCC, Phillips Arena, CNN Center, the Downtown Casino, and Olympic Park.

nice illustration! i'm not sure if turning more of the street into a pedestrian plaza is the greatest idea, however. it didn't do anything at all for underground, and possibly had some negative effects. i would agree if there were some more 'programming' along there. and there DEFINITELY needs to be some trees planted in the area. it looks like a desert.

One thing I love about the potential effects of the MMPT is that it bridges (literally) long standing gaps in downtown that have served as walls between areas that should be connected.

This has to potential to make it a pleasant walk between Fairlie-Poplar and Castleberry Hill. This has the potential to turn around Underground Atlanta (with a significant re-marketing and cleanup effort). Making it an easy, direct walk between Olympic Park, CNN, and Five Points could funnel a whole lot more foot traffic to what is now an area tourists have no reason to visit.

I know that the MMPT can be much more than just a transportation hub.

lol.... he literally owns the only other bridge!

Monopolist!

That was an issue with the negotiations betwene the GDOT and the 75 northwest corridor a while back.

The state discontinued negotiations with a company just because of a vague clause that could prevent the GDOT from building anything else in the corridor for so many years.

Example to see is SF Transbay Terminal Project: San Francisco Transbay development - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia this project is very similar to the MMPT and will contain the the building referenced in the first line.

I agree with this. I spoke to some ladies about this project recently and this is the thought I got from it. I didn't read over the whole thread, but do they have the final plans set yet. When I spoke to the ladies from the MMPT/GDOT office about it, they said there were 2 plans on the table at that time, one just a hub of transportation that will be a catalyst for more street cars in the future along with maybe a connection to MARTA in the future as well as a bus terminal, the 2nd had a connection to Five Points downtown, basically like a trail from the MMPT station down to Five Points, like a promenade, which seemed interesting and exciting. I think it is a great project for that area of "the gulch" since it is just a big hole right now.

I am hoping for the 2nd idea.

Me too. The gulch isn't attractive or useful for anything other than homeless people or drug deals.
