Hi all,

I have recently been given the opportunity to buy a house in Atlanta. It belongs to people I know who no longer want it and just in conversation I said it might be something Im interested in.

There is some work to be done to it, it needs a new boiler and furnace and a new kitchen, but other than that its just usual wear and tear like painting and new carpets.

I was thinking of renovating it and either renting it out or selling it. I think I should have it up to standard for about $25,000. It is a bungalow, 3 bedroom, timber framed house on a mostly red brick street. It is in the 30310 zip code in the Pittsburgh neighbourhood near Pittman Park.

I am from Ireland and live in Ireland so have never been to Atlanta. What Im wondering is if the idea of renovating this property to rent it or sell it makes any sense?? What kind of neighbourhood this is?? Is there much of a market for renting at the moment or if I sold it would a property in the area get more than $25,000??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out Trulia.com. You can do a search for the zip code and look at recently sold houses and can see what comparable houses are selling for. The range looks like 22,000-100,000 so it is tough to tell you without knowing more about the house.

honestly . if you do NOT live here. do NOT buy it.

never buy something (like a house) sight unseen.

there is plenty of homes available for $5,000 to $10,000 all day long.

pm me the address, if you want me to look up how much he paid for the property.

$5000 $10,000 homes? Where and what would it cost to fix them up to rent and or eventually sell?

Default address please

if you give us the address we can give you an opinion about the area and probably the house.

There are now homes available for $10,000. That may be the asking price, but someone will bid $40,000 and buy the home. I know, as my girl is an agent.
