I was trying to order a birth certificate for my child through Vitalchek.com. The charge for the birth certificate is $25 and VitalChek.com charges an additional $9. I was reading their terms and conditions and it states that the money is charged for doing a search in the database. If their search doesn't yield any result, the money won't be refunded. The hospital recommended ordering birth certificate approximately a week after the birth. But, I'm just wondering whether I should wait for some more time so that I don't lose my money if the record isn't present in their database.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Is it probably better to go in person and get the birth certificate? Or should I order the birth certificate through mail?

I would wait it out a few weeks at least. If you want to go in person, you have to go to the county seat where the child was born. I personally prefer to get my copies through the mail and pay a little extra.
