GDOT (and the CIDs) tackle Peachtree.

Quote:
There will be big changes along Peachtree Road in the next two years as four different agencies work to make improvements that they hope will make the road safer.

Residents and business owners got a glimpse of what’s in store during a Dec. 10 public information meeting hosted by the Peachtree Road Task Force. The task force is made up of representatives from the Buckhead Community Improvement District, the city of Atlanta, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Midtown Alliance. All of these agencies will have a hand in paying for and building the projects that are on the horizon.

Nice! Thanks for the update. Peachtree through Midtown proper and Buckhead's business district is so very much nicer than it was a decade ago. I like seeing that the balance of the stretch will get some much improvements, too!

Nice! The changes sound positive although I'm not altogether sure how they'd squeeze dedicated turn lanes and a bike lane into the current design. How long will it take?

i think they ought to do a viaduct system around the buckhead CBD. there is already a semi-viaduct that the 141 connector goes into when you go towards lenox square. they should create an "underground" street level for major and through traffic at the intersection of lenox road and peachtree. then narrow peachtree on top, add sidewalks, trees, etc.

They need to pave Piedmont from Cheshire Br. North to Peachtree, and Lenox Rd where it becomes 4 lanes.

I'll be glad to see this implemented. Hopefully they can raise the money.

Good post!

I especially liked:
  • Completing the I-85/Georgia 400 interchange
  • Re-timing signals
  • Increasing frequency of MARTA rail and bus service
  • Widening buffers and sidewalks and improving pedestrian crossings

The completed I-85/GA 400 interchange is supposed to open sometime early next year.

The signal timing, I think, is supposed to be covered the state's RTOP program.

The rest of it will probably have to be handled by the CID, private developers, and hopefully GDOT.
