Those fighting the years-long battle to save the three-story Crum & Forster Building on Spring Street were dealt a recent setback by the Atlanta City Council, which approved its demolition despite the fact that a zoning board disapproved of the razzing.

Plans call for saving the circa-1926 structure's lovely façade, probably the most striking feature of its Italian Renaissance Revival style. The proposed tower, an expansion to Technology Square, would rise behind those arches and could top out at 27 stories.

Good. Tear it down.

Surely this is of more value to the city of Atlanta than saving this old, semi-historic building.

Ugly building is ugly. Thank goodness. It would be different if they were tearing down something like n Fairlie Poplar in downtown.

I'm not opposed to tearing down the building so long as the proposed development is well designed.

The link shows their plan. Seems pretty solid to me.

I agree with tearing it down since the new development is gonna make use of the entire block. That building is just awkward now as it stands surrounded by the Technology Square development. Atlanta has already sold it's soul and gone too far to worry about preserving these marginally historic buildings now.

More evidence that GT is about research.
