Sorry if this is a little open-ended, but I'm taking a plane to visit a friend up north and I want to bring them something that might be hard to find outside of Georgia and would survive being stowed away since I think I can't bring external food in my carry-ons. Any ideas? I was thinking something sweet with peaches in it.

Not unique that you can't find outside of Georgia but fresh Georgia pecans this time of year is always a winner.

Something made from Vidalia Onions is also a good choice - although the onions themselves are not in season right now.

Pecans came across my mind too!

Also peanuts.

I also think Pralines do well. These are by no means unique to Georgia and are probably more known in places like New Orleans, but a good southern staple of French food for up north that is easy to take on a plane and won't spoil.

Just don't make the same mistake I did. I brought jars of farmers' market peach salsa to carry on as gifts. They were confiscated at security. Definitely stick with dry foods, even better if you can check your bag. I was only going for a weekend, and had the salsa in my carry-on. I swear you wouldn't have gotten 3 ounces of liquid anything from the jars, but,
there was no arguing.

The TSA is also infamous for theft...so I wonder what became of that salsa?

Thank you for all the replies! I am visiting an old friend (of the girl variety) with a well-known propensity for sweets/fruit.

What if I'm stowing it away in the cargo area? Of course, I am well aware of TSA's carry-on policies.

nothing wrong with putting it in a checked bag!

Just make sure it is well protected and won't break. I fly with liquor bottles from overseas all the time

roasted peanuts in the brown paper bag from the road-side vendors... LOVE EM!!! Only thing is, it won't still be freshly hot after the plane ride, so just steam them on the other side.
(I know, not like you can't get peanuts anywhere, but nobody does them like in GA)

Find a REAL road-side barbecue pit that serves the mustard barbecue (AN UNDERAPPRECIATED GEORGIA STAPLE).
