^Mayor Reed vetoed the panhandling legislation! And then he was on Meet the Press promoting Obamacare. Can't be a coincidence.

My company told us during the 2013 benefits meeting last week to enjoy the health benefits now because starting in 2014, we will not like the choices or the cost of premiums.

During the first quarter of 2013, we will learn about health insurance exchange. On the news just now, the state of Georgia most likely will not be ready with their exchange. Things will definitely get more interesting going forward.

Now that the GOP has gained super majority control in the GA statehouse I don't think they will implement the ACA.

I am not sure why people are surprised but Republicans have never been supportive of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, ACA, etc...these are all programs introduced by Democrats. Yes ignoring the ACA implementation etc will be tough on the poor and low-income in the state, but politically its advantageous for Republicans running for re-election soon.

Doesn't setting up the exchanges also open up the state to potential large additional financial obligations that the Feds won't cover down the road. Its nice the feds cover the early expenses but then what..

Just like other southern states such as Alabama and Mississippi, Georgia will never tax itself in a way to save its own life. Georgia won't tax itself reasonably for transportation and it certainly won't do so for healthcare.

I hope that President Obama will find a way to carve out more federal money from the wealthy to get his healthcare program moving.

Because as long as the southern states and other conservative states keep on with trying to refight the civil war, there never be any movement towards true healthcare reform.

"Two major decisions loom for Gov. Nathan Deal and other Republican governors who have put off key decisions tied to the law, hoping it would be repealed if Mitt Romney won election.

One is whether they to accept billions of federal dollars to expand Medicaid, the government health program for the poor. Deal’s decision will determine whether hundreds of thousands of low-income Georgians get access to health coverage.

To date Deal has said the state can’t afford the expansion longterm.

More immediately, state leaders must declare by Nov. 16 whether they will build and operate new online exchanges where consumers and small businesses can shop for affordable insurance or leave it to the federal government. Experts say even if Georgia opts to create its own exchange, there isn’t enough time to get one up and running by the Jan. 1, 2014 deadline.

“States have to start moving fast,” said William Custer, a health care expert at Georgia State University. “This is a freight train and not all the cars are loaded...”

Big healthcare decisions loom for state in election

Oh please stop trying to bring the civil war into this and trying to to make it some racial conspiracy. Did you know only 13% of Americans make over 100k, but they pay 87% of the taxes collected? So please look at the numbers so you do not appear to be uneducated.

The democratic policies have clearly worked great in the black community. What is the black unemployment rate, the HS graduation rate, what is the teen pregnancy rate, how many own their homes, etc.?

Put the taxes up and business will be leaving.

I am really getting tired of all your right wing, tea party style rhetoric.

The exchanges are only a component of the ACA. It all is coming to Georgia. The exchanges set up a competitive market place where individuals can more easily compare their health insurance options from the private insurers. If Georgia chooses not to set up their own exchanges then the Federal government will set one up for Georgia.

Exactly. ACA is not an optional program, it is the law.

Deal is throwing away free federal money for healthcare for GA citizens. I can't see why people voted for such an idiot. Who knows what will happen in 3 years? Take the money and work on figuring out how to get the state matching funds later.

It's broader than that, but the GOP has been workin' the Southern strategy for 40+ years. Either you are not informed of party history and their policies, or are choosing to ignore it. Period.

Please don't use irrelevant information. We all pay a % of our income in taxes. Saying a broad group pays X % of taxes collected is meant to hide the fact that individually a lot of them pay less of a percentage of their income in taxes than a lot of people in much lower income groups.

So please look at the numbers so you do not appear to be uneducated.
