I've been hearing people say that in some cities the standard tip is going up from 20% to 25%.

Is that becoming the new normal in the ATL as well?

Well, we're a major destination and people come here from all over the country and around the world. So I would expect our tipping rates to fall in line with comparable cities.

They should pay them minimum just like everyone else. I ride on airplanes, take megabus, etc without having to leave a tip

The only place I have seen this is NYC.

Are we a major destination, really? I'm not knocking Atlanta, I just don't think of it on the same level as NYC, London, LA, Hong Kong, etc.

Standard tip is 18%, not 20%.

15% is for "meh" service. Less for horrible service.

20% is for very good service.

Large destination cities have tremendous difficulty with international customers who come from countries where tipping is not customary. Tipping customers probably tip more to help make up the difference.

I rarely tip more than 18%, but will definitely go to 20% for great service or if the server doesn't charge me for my soda, etc.

I tip 20% as a rule, sometimes more at my local "home" pub, unless service is really abysmal. I've been a server, and I remember what it's like to make $2.17 an hour.
