Hello,

We are a three-adult Caucasian household, no kids, don't plan to have any, and we are looking at some of the prices around the airport and they are outrageously low.

The pictures look nice enough.

So can anyone explain what it really is like to live in one of these neighborhoods?

I know the reputation is not so hot, but that's also what I heard about MARTA. I heard some racist things about MARTA and about how dangerous it is and how unsafe downtown is, but I have experienced NO problems whatsoever and have never been in a situation where I was afraid.

Unfortunately, Georgia neighborhoods can best be summed up by six simple words.

You get what you pay for.

Really, that's true wherever you go. You just have to make the call if price is more important than lively-hood and lifestyle. In the current economic state, it may be the former and that's ok. Since you don't have kids you may be better off than those with kids.

I wouldn't recommend that area to friends and family.

Just listen to an Outkast record. They have lots of songs about life in Eastpoint & College Park. I highly recommend the first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, although Aquemini is really good too.

Per Ludacris, "once upon a time in College Park, where they live life fast and they're scared after dark".

Just try renting there and see. I'm going through the same thing now, trying to decide where to buy, but I'm just going to have to rent until I know for sure where I want to / can be.

Its hood and may be dangerous, I think north of I20 would be a better investment for you.

This is probably the best advise on this thread so far. Frankly, everyone else on here sounds like they have no idea what they are talking about. I know several white people who live in East Point and College Park and love it. Just do your homework and choose wisely...

I agree. I've known people that have lived in the older neighborhoods of both cities and liked it. You can have the feel of Virginia-Highland or Morningside for a lot less money.
