Atlanta/Fortune 500 Companies
IMO, professional opportunities would be more abundant in Atlanta.

To make such a decision I would have to visit each location several times. I read some glowing posts about Charlotte and then I read a post that gave me pause--I inferred that it is more of a large 'small town' than a city.
Atlanta is a city--there is 'a lot' of everything here--good and bad.
The opportunities for post graduate studies are excellent--Atlanta University Center, Emory, GA Tech, GA State, Ogelthorpe and other colleges and universities.

I live in Charlotte and prefer Atlanta. When I'm done with college I'd like to move there. There are more high quality jobs and better schools in metro Atlanta. I think Atlanta is A LOT nicer (in many ways) than Charlotte, but to each their own.

I've been to Charlotte several times on business and for pleasure and I see I've always viewed as Atlanta 10 years ago. I must admit that Charlotte has made better strides in trying to plan mass transit, but other than that I don't see much difference in it being a better city. Atlanta is definitely a more cosmo type place to live if that is your thing. Atlanta has a much more diverse economic base than Charlotte. Charlotte is largely a banking/financial center and we all know what happened to that industry over last 3 years. Atlanta has a very diverse industry base from manufacturing, transportation, financial, tech firms and so on. Being a single woman it would be tough because women outnumber available men 10 to 1 here. There are a lot of Benz driving, mansion-living, but lonely black women here.
