Interesting - we've been "dethroned". I'll be curious to see what type of exhibit (outlandish or not) the Ga. Aquarium comes up with to add on to "reclaim the claim" after this (or if they'll just let it be).

Discuss in a civil manner.

I doubt they'll do anything to try to compete with an aquarium in Singapore. Especially since in the aquarium world, size doesn't necessarily mean best. Georgia Aquarium is the largest in the U.S., but I think few people would try to say that it is better than the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is small, but I think it's a great little aquarium (if you like predators).

I think there's even less urgency when you are dethroned by Asia. Cedar Point is regularly dehtroned. If they build a 300 foot roller coaster, some park in Asia will build one that is 305 feet. It doesn't seem to have hurt their bottom line, though. Hopefully, the Georgia Aquarium will just concentrate on quality instead of size. If it does that, it should be fine.

Meh ... the Georgia Aquarium has always simply *claimed* to be "world's largest" -- it has never been indisputably proven -- and it appears the same is true for this one in Singapore. It is merely a marketing ploy and takes nothing away from the facility or its mission. I think that's one of the things Geogia Aquarium critics miss in their disdain for the place. It is not just a big tank full of pretty fish. An awful lot of good research goes on there, as it should be.

I'm surprised it's not in Dubai. They seem to have the worlds largest man made everything.

It also has the world's largest viewing panel.

We just need a spillover tank. Any time an aquarium passes us...glug...glug...glug...we'll pass them.

^^I could see that one coming a mile away.

Death, Taxes, and someone saying "Chattanooga's is better" any time GA Aquarium is mentioned.

But that's so bizarre.

I remember going to the Tennessee Aquarium years ago. I remember thinking, "Are you kidding with this place? I can see 90% of these fish in the big tank at Bass Pro Shops at Discover Mills any time I want for free!"

That was years ago. I understand that they have improved their exhibits, but everyone interested in fish knows that marine species are more colorful and interesting than freshwater fish. The Tennessee Aquarium had way more freshwater tanks than salt.

I could understand if someone said the aquarium in New Orleans is better. Or Baltimore. Or Vancouver. Or Chicago. But Chattanooga? Give me a break.

LOVE Cedar Point!!! You really don't understand how good you have it if you are a coaster enthusiast such as myself until you move away! We went there so much I thought there were amusement parks better than them. I have not found any that can give you a coaster experience like Cedar Point.

In regards to the aquarium, eh...it is in Singapore. I doubt most Americans go to Singapore often and I'm sure the GA Aquarium will remain a popular tourist attraction regardless.
