I generally had decent luck with Two Men And A Truck. I don't know if they operate where you're moving from.

I'd check Angieslist. Most moving companies suck. You also might want to look into one of those services like PODS.

As someone who moved a lot as a kid, I would look for a company that has full time movers that pack your truck, drive in the truck, then unload your truck. Or at least a place that has full time employees in the city you are moving to that will come do the job. I'm not even sure if this exists, but one of the big problems with moving is you generally just get a driver and then he will hire day help to load you, then he'll go get day help in the new city to unload you. And they don't generally do criminal background checks on these guys, day moving is one of those jobs you can get if you're strung out, just out of the joint, pretty much whatever! So I'd say the biggest thing to look for is someone who has full time movers or at least a place that checks the guys out.

I remember hearing about one company whose schtick was they only used college guys trying to earn extra money. I wish I could remember the name, but I'd feel a lot better with a bunch of college dudes moving my stuff than guys who just got done with their 20 year homicide sentences.

Probably not the cheapest option, but we used Suddath to move from NJ to FL, and then from FL to GA. We were very happy with both experiences.

Just don't go with a no-name company that you find on the internet.
I did this to save money when I was younger and didn't get my furniture for 3 months! I had to call the police and everything. Turns out, they only had ONE, yes ONE truck and my stuff was still (in their storage) in the state from which I'd moved - three months later!
