Last month I lost my 30 year old fiance to cancer after a year and a half long fight. He was my soulmate, and I'm devastated. Eventually, I realize I must move on and try to find happiness again, until I can be with him again.

I've never really dated, much less in Atlanta. I currently live in Fayetteville. the thought of dating terrifies me- i just want to find a solid, happy relationship again, but I guess who doesn't?

I'm not ready yet but when I am I'd like to know the best places to meet quality people. Can anyone give me tips or advice on where to meet young professional men? (24-35?) I'm 28.

Better yet, does anyone know of any local young widow support groups?

Thanks so much in advance...

JC, so sorry for your loss. It's sad enough when anyone is widowed, but especially so for someone of your age.

Can you try online dating? Maybe look for profiles of widowers?

But if it's too soon to really start dating, what about just getting "out there?" Just doing some social activities in co-ed groups with people your age? Do you know about Meetups?

I tried to research support groups for young widows. I don't know your religious orientation---churches definitely have some support groups for widowed people in general. Some online info that may help you find local groups or just a peer, even if by phone or online:

DailyStrength Groups - Young Widows

Atlanta doesn't have a Young Widows Meetup group---maybe you could start one or at least contact those on this list waiting for a group:

I admire you for trying to rebuild your life after such a devastating loss and wish you the best. I'm sure your fiance would be proud of your strength.

First Baptist Church in Fayetteville has a grief share support group led by people who've been through what you're experiencing. You don't mention your faith, but it's a great church with very loving people who can at least help you get through the grief. Call the church main number. The receptionist actually leads the group
