My husband and I had 2 days to drive around EC and Alpharetta and Roswell last week. Traffic was a bear starting at 3:30 in those areas and my god the traffic was at a standstill on Mansell Rd at 6pm- wow.

So here is what I am hoping a few good posters can provide for us- what is it like taking your kids to sports and other activites during the evening and on the weekends in those areas?

We have a child who needs the ice rink and basketball leagues(middle school level), one who needs a dance studio, and one who needs soccer and softball fields and gymnastics(8 yr old). So there could be days when there are multiple activities going on.

Are soccer and softball fields spread about?

Here we have a basketball rec team that practices at the local middle or high schools during the week and a game on Saturday somewhere else.

We looked mainly at North Roswell (Wexford subd) as the southside seemed much more congested. 2 miles or less off of 400 in Alpharetta (Windard N'hood), and then East Cobb.

There may be other info you can lend to me as well and I'm all ears!

Thank you!

You get used to leaving extra time to get to games and practices around here. Mansell isn't always a horror, but it is a main exit off 400, as well as a direct route to the mall area at Northpoint.

The fields are indeed spread out. Roswell Area Park has several, Bell Memorial Park, Hopewell Park, Wills Park, etc. You can pick up the program directories at both Roswell and Alpharetta rec centers to see where various sports are held. I can't help with East Cobb programs.

Skating rinks are either the Cooler in Alpharetta, or in Kennesaw or Marietta. I can't help with East Cobb programs.

I had three sons involved in various sports. It isn't too difficult at the elementary and middle school levels, but you'll be driving progressively longer distances as they get older.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely looks like traffic there is just part of life that you get used to.

We are in East Cobb. I only find the traffic to be bad at and around the main road junctions and then only at rush hour. I have driven to swimming, soccer, tennis, gymnastics, art clases, all in the afternoon/evenings and its never a problem. I would add 10 extra minutes if we have to be somewhere between 5-6:30 but that's about it. Traffic isn't bad on weekends for the most part.

We moved to East Cobb in November and I haven't found it difficult to get around to kid's activities. My kids seem to have most of their stuff off of Johnson Ferry between Paper Mill and Roswell. The traffic is no different than where we used to live and I think it's actually less spread out here. They always seem to need to be somewhere at 5pm, but that's life

Our grandkids live intown but they play a lot of sports teams around east Cobb and north Fulton. We just zip up 400 and it's really not that bad.
