Not unless he reinvents himself as a conservative. I don't think its as much an issue of race as some do. I think Herman Cain would have a better shot at the office than Kasim.

But that wouldn't happen; Kasim would get the core, but not our suburbs. They comprise some of the most politically conservative congressional districts in the country, and are a large block of GA voters. The party lines don't run urban vs rural in this state. It's not that simple, otherwise we would be a Dem state by now.

I would as well, probably. It obviously depends on who he's running against.

The fact that he thinks the Savannah-Atlanta railway is a good idea gave me pause about him.

If not governor, then congressman.

But it would help him in Metro Atlanta, and where does more than 1/2 the state's population live?
Even metropolitan Atlanta has a large number of conservatives that when combined with the entire state would likely not endorse an African American for governor. There are still a lot of old school Southerners that are wealthy and educated in Atlanta. They may not be vocal but they are still very Southern.

Just because Atlanta has skyscrapers, don't confuse it for NY, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Chicago, SF, Seattle etc., it is still very much a Southern city with conservative values which is particularly evident in the wealthy suburbs.

I think he could win, but it would be close. His ability too work with other areas in the state (I.E. Savanna port) would get him allot of endorsements from other areas of the state.

As much as I like the Mayor, the chances of a man born in the city of Atlanta named Mohammed Kasim Reed and who supports marriage equality winning the Governorship of Georgia is about as likely as me winning the lottery tonight. I hope I am wrong on both accounts, but I'd take at least one.

But we are talking about Georgia, not the US and not a swing state.
