Approximately how long would the morning commute be from Fairburn (at the point where you jump on I-85) to downtown ATL (233 Peachtree Street N.E.).

I'd like to be able to arrive at work at 7 a.m.

Thanks for your insight.

At 7AM it shouldn't be a problem. Roughly 25-30 minutes, I would venture. At 8AM it's a totally different story--backups all the way from downtown to University Ave. Faster to take MARTA from College Park at that hour.

Thanks for the response, testa50. 25-30 is certainly do-able.

I hadn't really considered MARTA before. I'll have to look into that more.

No problem. Just to be sure, you might want to go ahead and check Inrix traffic maps at ~6:45 AM on the downtown connector (75/85) and make sure everything is in fact free-flowing northbound. I drive the other way at all different times and recall it being clear at that time, but you can never be too careful when planning commutes.

Well...2 years later...an update!

I settled in Fairburn (south of 85)and catch MARTA at College Park. Leaving around 6:15 a.m. from Fairburn to College Park; takes about 15-20 minutes. Train ride in takes about the same. I'm at the Peachtree Center by 7.

In the evenings, traffic from College Park to Fairburn isn't bad at all. Again, about 45 minutes total commute on the way home.

On days I drive into work, leaving Fairburn around 6:20 gets me to the Peachtree Center just before 7, barring any accidents. Leaving downtown around 4:30 and driving to Fairburn takes about 40 minutes.

Thanks to Testa50 for the MARTA suggestion. Company pays for my pass too!
