what are some nice areas in this zip code? I looked at West Highlands (Brock built homes) , but feel that the set up is just too good to be true. I also get the feel that it is mixed income housing, which scares me. I am a young health professional looking to be surrounded by similar professional people. I will be living alone (with a small dog) and want to feel secure as well. There is a beautiful area on Habershal Road that I like, but it is not too far from a road called "Gun Club Road"...the name in itself scares me. not to mention the shoddy houses. I just need some kind of input.

In 30318, you want to stay in the Northeast section for better, safer neighborhoods. (Not that all other neighborhoods in 30318 are necessarily bad, mind you. Just giving you a rule of thumb here.)

On a map, that means stay north and east of Marietta Blvd/Marietta Rd/Marietta St. If you want houses, look in the neighborhoods of Underwood Hills/Berkeley Park. For condos/townhouses/apartments, look along Huff Rd. (more affordable) and Howell Mill (more expensive, but more going on). LOTS of young professionals around this area, so you should fit in just fine.

Other neighborhoods in 30318 that are good are: Whittier Mill Village and Riverside. But unless you let us know your price range and how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need, we can't help you as well as we could if we knew that. There is a moving "sticky" on the home page of the forum, copy and paste the questions with your answers here and we can help.

I have lived in the 30318 for 3 years and I love it. I live in a townhouse development called Liberty Park. It is fully developed now. The last row was built right after I moved in, 2010, but at any given time we have a few units for sale or rent and they tend to go pretty fast. We are a gated community and actually have a guard at the gate 24/7. Weirdly enough our HOA fees aren't that bad. The surrounding area is a little sketch and this is most definatly NOT a walkable area (unless you are behind the gate). However, as a single female I feel completely safe. All of my neighbors are young couples or single professionals and every one has a dog or two including myself. There are almost no children living here except for the couple who have very young infants, not really any school aged children.
The best thing about where I live is the proximity to everywhere I could possibly want to go. I work downtown and it takes me 15 minutes and I don't even get on a highway. We are very very close to Vinings and Buckhead also.

There's Adams Crossing and DuPont Commons. There are also some older homes in between those two neighborhoods, many of which are affordable and renovated.

Ummm, not necessarily. Not at all. There is a stretch of Howell Mill (between Chattahoochee and Collier) that can delay you a few minutes during peak traffic but everything else in every direction is pretty much clear at all times. And if you live in the area many times you just take side roads and avoid Howell Mill.
