I know everyone will be disappointed that the title of this thread isn't "Moving to ATL, Need Info On..."

Anyway, I know that the "bandit signs" (Cash for junk cars, buy your foreclosures, etc.) are illegal in Cobb County but I am seeing that there are a LOT of them out there. I have seen some on utility poles that have been up for a month or longer. If I am in a position and have time, I will stop and remove them (if they are in the right-of-way) but usually I can only get so many.

Anyway, this problem got so bad in San Antonio, there was really no way to stop it and I am afraid that if it continues to be "overlooked" in Cobb County, it will get to the point of no return.

Is this something code enforcement should be dealing with? I understand that there are only so many enforcement officers, but with the large number of signs, they could levy enough fines to hire 30 people to do this...at least on a temporary basis.

I saw a statistic of a nation-wide "Stamp out Spam Signs" (or something similar) and how many were collected and Cobb County was at the top of the list for number collected.

What are the thoughts out there? I haven't been one to go to the commissioner's meetings and make a public comment, but I think it might be about time...I hate seeing my community "spammed" so badly!

Take a shot at local newspapers like the Neighbor or others that concentrate on the local scene. Perhaps a letter to the editor would get things stirred up. When we were in Sandy Springs, I did my part to clean up around the Roswell Rd and Abernathy intersection(probably a 4 square mile area in total). Some weeks were worse than others, but we tried. I actually became a Citizen Deputy shortly before we left in '08. The City of Sandy Springs was pretty responsive back then; but I don't know what has happened since we left.

I know there were some really bad intersections in Cobb...many along 41 and along Windy Hill. I'm sure there's more. You could contact the owners/managers of the businesses affected and get their permission to remove the signs. As the folks at CAUSS used to say...If the signs stay up, they 'invite' more signs. Blight begets blight.

Best of luck to you! The City of Austin is pretty good about keeping the signs to a minimum; but there are some weeks that I'm tempted to get out the shop knife and the 'puller-downer'
