In the past few years the percentage of Atlantans biking to work has doubled. We are way behind on this. The amount we are paying for this amount of work is actually very low.

They are probably trying to follow where the cycleatlanta app said the heaviest bike corridors where, and they where mostly downtown/midtown. Eventually those areas will see investment, but it's better to invest where it is most needed first.

It's also interesting to to me that the "bike boulevard", which sounds totally awesome, is in the Bluff. I take this as another sign of impending gentrification.

I posted this in another forum, but thought it might be relevant to your comment. These are the CycleAtlanta App paths that were analyzed at the GT Hack-a-thon. A lot of the choices for bike improvements around the city represent some of the most heavily used streets by bikes.

Something that came to mind, though, is that there may not be as many smartphone users in the less affluent areas of the southern parts of the city. So, maybe there is a bias in the maps showing heavy usage, but I'm guessing the majority of people commuting by bike are those who commute to/live near the city center anyway. Just a thought.
