The symposium will be probably held in Atlanta — and will probably continue to be, even when UGA is not hosting — at the Hyatt Regency. Speakers will include representatives from all 14 SEC universities, government agencies and industry groups.

"Renewable energy experts from the Southeastern Conference's 14 universities, industry and government will gather in Atlanta Feb. 10-12 to address renewable energy topics at the inaugural SEC Symposium, "Impact of the Southeast in the World's Renewable Energy Future." The event is organized by the SEC and led by the University of Georgia and the UGA Bioenergy Systems Research Institute. Discussions will address whether the new EPA mandate realistic, given that production of cellulosic biofuels was almost zero in 2012. The role for the Southeast in meeting the mandate, where biofuels made from abundant pine trees and switch grass, rather than wind or solar energy, will also be discussed."

Moves like this will make Atlanta a tech and science hub. Bring the students here. That is the key in my opinion.

I'm assuming most of you don't know about college football conferences' role in academics. To learn more about SEC Academic Consortium (SECAC) read up on this SECU | SEC Symposium

We need more of this in football. SEC needs to try to equal BIG 10 in academics, then we'll be unstoppable.

Interesting symposium.

For the region of the country that is probably the least progressive in terms of clean energy, it could only help.

Especially in one of the dirtiest cities in America. Glad to see stuff like this. This is a worthwhile goal for the SEC..geographically I mean

Sure, but the freeways and many of the secondary roads don't seem to be swept or de-littered on a regular basis. It doesn't make a good impression.

Did you just use Wikipedia to cite a source? Why did you even link that? That article doesn't say Atlanta has the largest tree canopy.

I stopped at Wikipidea. Thanks for identifying the source, and you were right. Atlanta has the largest tree canopy of any metropolitan city. Sadly, that does not equate to a clean city. Ask any African/South America community and their water suppliers. It also, ironically, does not equate to a green city. We need renewable energy, wind turbines, and sustainability to do that. More solar panels and hydroelectric pumps in Savannah. It can happen..even with all the litter bugs and homeless people.
