The sequestration cuts would reduce the 2013 federal fiscal year budget by about $110 billion. Frankly, I'm nervous. Tough times call for tough measures I suppose.

Here?s the White House list of Georgia sequester cuts - Atlanta Business Chronicle
Sequestration will cost state jobs, hundreds of millions in funds, administration says | Online Athens

Among the cuts Georgia will see, according to the White House breakdown:
• About $28.6 million in education funding, representing the jobs of about 390 teachers and aides.
• Another $17.5 million would be eliminated from another part of the education budget, representing the jobs of about 210 aides and teachers who work with children with disabilities.
• Some 37,000 civilian Department of Defense workers would be furloughed, to eliminate about $190 million in expenditures.
• Funding to operate U.S. Army and Air Force bases in the state would be cut another $238 million.
• Head Start and Early Head Start services would be eliminated for about 1,700 children.
• The state would lose about $3.5 million in funding aimed at clean air and water, and $979,000 in grants for fish and wildlife protection.
• Money for responding to natural disasters, vaccinating children, HIV testing, helping domestic violence victims also would be cut, according to the White House summary.

There will be a lot more than a reduction in defense spending, that's for sure. Thanks, for the link

We can't continue with the runaway spending. This might hurt, but it is what the country needs.

Heck, if we could only get some leadership from the White House on cutting or ensuring long term viability of entitlements, we could get somewhere. It is mind boggling that neither party will propose serious reform for Social Security given how easy of a fix it really is. Political asshattery at its worst.

It seems like we'd be better off to eliminate idiotic stuff like the $1 million Martian food tasting program, the $27 million pottery classes in Morocco, the $300,000 caviar marketing program, the $91 million pro sports loophole, the $1.5 billion free cellphone program, the $516,000 Prom Week video game program, the $500K pet shampoo subsidy, the $268 million "black liquor" loophole, etc., etc., etc., than to cut important programs.

Why not get rid of some of the absurd waste first?

After all, we got by on $2 trillion just ten years ago. Why does it suddenly take $3.8 trillion to run the country? (And yes, Bush and the Republicans are just as responsible as Obama and the Democrats).

Why would anyone want to cut back on this?

It's not that anyone wants to cut these programs, but the cuts are across the board, not discriminating between any program and another. That's what we get when the two governing parties hate each other so much - ridiculous, thoughtless results.

I agree this was BHO's idea and now he is going to live with the consequences. How does he expect more tax increases when the Republicans just caved on that?
