I have no idea of whether they have exhibits or activities for 7 and 11 year olds but you might want to consider the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library or the Martin Luther King Center.

These are both uniquely Atlanta and American

I second that cStone Mountain is great for any age.

My friend was here recently and her kids were also quite bright and gifted (9 and 11 years old)

They enjoyed Legoland. She noted that if they had waited any longer the 11 year old would have been too old but he found plenty to enjoy.

I have to agree with others that gifted or not, they are still 7 and 11 year olds.

My suggestions:

Stone Mountain
Andretti Speedlab
Tellus Science Museum (haven't been but planning to go there this summer with my own kids)
Atlanta Hawks basketball game
Atlanta Braves baseball game

Okefenokee Swamp - even if it's just the visitors' center for a few hours. Besides the mammoth alligators everywhere out in the open, you can go to the short nature center presentations and see/touch a bunch of snakes, turtles, baby gators, et al. Be sure to ask about the otter's temperament - he was on rampage last time we were there and bit a guest. The train ride is a waste, but the short boat trip is pretty cool.

How about metal detecting someplace with a little history (they can do the research in advance). Lots of cities have rumors of buried treasure and whatnot. We have 4 kids and love to bring one along on hikes to help entertain the kids. The adults get to enjoy the fresh air while the kids are busy digging up their new treasures. (Usually just pocket change, but sometimes an old buffalo nickel or wheat penny.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

You're right, these kids are still kids and I want them to have fun. I just want them to do some things that they can't do at home. They live 5 minutes from the beach and 2 hours from Disney World, so they have already done a lot of those kinds of things.

I would like to take them to a place like VaHi or Decatur or Inman Park, but really only if there is some kind of festival going on. I can't imagine them being terribly interested in just walking around and seeing shops and restaurants.

Probably they're going to be happy hanging around my house a lot playing with my dog since they don't have one and love animals, but I want them to have some good experiences too and be able to go home with good memories of their trip.

Absolute must - completely forgot about this

If they are going to be here the first week of April than plan something around the Final Four Weekend which is being hosted here.

Final Four NCAA Tournament in Atlanta

Has someone already suggested Fernbank Museum? Lots of cool things there for kids that age - exhibits, star gazing, dinosaurs, an old growth forest...
