Have blacks ever gentrified any part of Atlanta? Not to my knowledge. If not, why not?

Atlanta's black community has a huge middle class, a fairly large upper class, a large cluster of black colleges, and large gay community. These are all of the demographics which typically gentrify a run-down part of a city.

It doesn't count when blacks do it. Property values won't rise based until white faces are prominent.

Sad, but true. The real estate industry is probably one of the most race influenced out there.

I guess they're probably happy with where they live now, unlike many the people who fled to the suburbs during the white flight era.

How about West End? Or Vine City?

Plenty of blacks participate in gentrification, even though they may not be on the leading edge in most cases.

I wouldn't exactly call Vine City or West End gentrified.

Because there isn't a lot of white people living there?

Portions of Vine City still have a way to go but that is true of many predominantly white areas, too.

West End seems thoroughly gentrified to me.

Technically they aren't "the gentry". In America at least, the word carries racial connotations. So no. Areas have, of course, been revitalised by African Americans.
