Because of the political and PR costs, to both the Mayor and the Falcons.

If I recall correctly, the Falcons went to one Super Bowl and lost. Perhaps the Falcons should stop choking and blowing their chances for making it to the Super Bowl and maybe then they can justify getting a new stadium.
