LOL, I don't know if it should shut down, but I agree with your sentiment. The college is in dire straits and may not be around for much longer, so why give so much thought into what they think?

Because of the political and PR costs, to both the Mayor and the Falcons.

Instead, consider the fact that GWCC may move the marshaling yards there or the fact that they have thought about expanding the World Congress Center onto the Dome's footprint.
The former Dome site will be redeveloped into a large tailgating park, which will be an actual park rather than a parking lot on non-gamedays. The Atlantic Station-type development is possible across the street though. The Cushman & Wakefield for sale sign for some of the parcels across Northside Drive is a small sign that they know some parties are already planning what to build nearby. Plus, other property owners are eager to develop retail nearby, regardless of where the stadium is built, since there will be pedestrians in the area regardless.

If I recall correctly, the Falcons went to one Super Bowl and lost. Perhaps the Falcons should stop choking and blowing their chances for making it to the Super Bowl and maybe then they can justify getting a new stadium.

As it turns out, this stadium isn't just about the Falcons. Welcome to Atlanta. Hell, welcome to Earth!

The lender is the AME Church, so they have an interest in seeing Morris Brown recover. If they pull it off, that'll be some legendary PR for the church and the college. Time will tell.

I just can't stop thinking of all the great things that could be done for Atlanta with that $Billion when we already have a perfectly good stadium that to someone my age seems like it was built just yesterday.

The Cowboys haven't won a superbowl since the 90's and guess what? When did the 49ers last win one, but guess what? Vikings? Eagles? Jaguars? Superbowls has zero to do with it.
