Will this be the beginning of the central business district stretching south past downtown in the way it's stretched north over the past 30 years? I think so. This is an excellent idea, but what do the plans entail? Are they looking for more suburban type development like what's already on Virginia avenue, or are they looking into making it a live-work-play district that would encourage dense development? Right now it looks like their first priority is attracting big business- while that's a good goal, the means are just as important as the ends. I don't think people will be raving about another office park, no matter how close it is to the airport.

That's true, I believe Clayton Co. is looking to gain the revenue they lost when the Ford plant closed at all cost, without considering quality community impact.

If these development happens, then there defiantly needs to be a MARTA spur of line extended from Lakewood to Hapeville, aerotropolis, and Maynard Jackson Int'l Terminal.

This article is about bringing economic development to a region but is not about development as to how it looks on the ground... central business district vs. suburban office parks, etc. Having lived in this area for two years, Gatwick is actually a very rural 'looking' area but with dense towns surrounding it. Crawley, Horsham and other nearby cities will have built up, dense development, but Gatwick is actually in the London Greenbelt which keeps sprawl at bay. Someone going from Gatwick into London will feel they are in a completely rural area for the first half of the drive/train ride. You don't see continuous dense development in London until you go north inside the ring road, the M 25.

The progress this group is bringing in will, by Greenbelt laws, keep actual development on the ground limited to areas already urbanized. Look at the map in the OP, the areas that are white (well not white, but the lightest shade of blue) are the built up areas. Areas in blue are still undeveloped, either agricultural, woods, parks, etc. and by Greenbelt laws will remain that way.

I believe I remember reading that Porsche is going to open their hq six months to a year later than originally planned. It would be great if the Atlanta Aerotropolis idea comes to fruition. They are hoping it will be completed over the next decade.

Yes that would make for a most excellent line, also should problem extend into the old Ford McPherson army, and whatever it may become
