Thanks! You've convinced me to go---especially with the photos, Greg!

The dance event I was talking about is modern dance (where you watch it---not actually doing the dancing!).
Yup, I'm prepared to walk, so maybe can find a restaurant off the beaten path that won't be horribly crowded.

I'll be honest and admit that I do miss the Atlanta neighborhood festivals. I haven't found anything equivalent in the DC area yet. Of course, the National Mall hosts all sorts of huge festivals throughout the year and those are ok but not the same.

I think my favorite is the Reynoldstown Wheelbarrow festival, mainly because Colonel Bruce Hampton usually shows up. Maybe the East Atlanta Strut is second. I think I've been to all except the Dogwood Festival which I suppose is the grand poobah of fests. Something else always came up.

I think I know what you are talking about with the dance. We watched some kid dancers perform at the festival one year in the Trolley Barn - A historical treasure in the heart of the city. | The Trolley Barn

Tip: Get down there about 10:30am or so on Sunday, and you'll avoid a percentage of the crowds that show up after noon. You'll miss the Saturday parade, but also miss 60% of the crowds, too.

I went for the first time last year and loved it. If the weather is good, the festival is perfect. Walking down those historic streets with the big ol trees and checking out the neighborhood is classic. Expect crowds and high beer prices. But it is totally worth it. Found some really cool art too.

cq, from your description, sounds like I will have to hit up the Kirkwood Spring Fling.

Not really the same, but Sweetwater 420 Fest is coming up soon too!

I love this coming time of year in Atlanta!

The only problem is, there are limited weekends during the Spring, and they tend to clump a lot of the festivals at the same time, so you have to pick your favorite many times and have to skip others.

We went down there last year before the parade. We walked to Little Five Points to eat, and had no trouble getting a table for an early lunch. By the time we finished and headed back to the festival, it was getting more crowded, but it wasn't unbearable. The SUV sized strollers are more to blame for the difficulty in getting around than the number of people.

My tip is to go early and check out the artist booths first thing. Then go eat. Come back to see the parade, and then maybe go sit in one of the several parks in the area and listen to some live music.

Looks crowded, but I may check it out this year for the first time. Festival season is in full swing, having just wrapped up the Atlanta Film Festival, and it was a blast!

Obviously, will take Marta down.

Is the parade worthwhile?

What about the music? Has anyone been to the dance festival?
Thanks for posting. I'm trying to immerse myself more as well.
