I agree with this, too. Weakest margaritas in town, bland food, bait-and-switch menu tricks.

It seems like there is a growing trend in the restaurant biz to offload more work onto to the customer.

Instead of the traditional practice of being shown to your table and having a waiter come and take your order, a lot of places require you to stand in line to place an order, then fix your own drink and pick up your own silverware and napkins, and then go find a table and transport everything on your own. There's also a good chance you may have to gather up your own condiments.

You're also the one who walks to the cash register, and in some places apparently you're expected to tip the cashier for all the work you're doing and the privilege of handing over your money.

Now if that's the deal so be it. However, I don't see much difference between that and your typical fast food joint, except that Mickey D's doesn't leave a tip jar next to the cash register.

Great points and I see your logic. You don't consider it sit-down unless it's full-service. Because there are so many restaurants with different concepts these days, in light of the discussion the questioning should be more specific. Waffle House is full-service, Yeah! Burger and Chow Baby aren't according to your description (and I agree with your points) but I'd rather eat at those places than Waffle House. I have nothing against Waffle House. I eat there ocassionally. But I'dI'sIchoose places like that over WH.

Since this is the Atlanta forum I assumed the OP meant non-fast food, non-national chain, Atlanta restaurants (i.e. not referring to places like Applebee's" Fridays, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc.)

I'd also like to say that a lot of people get so excited about the ethnic restaurants on Buford Highway and in Duluth.

Something I have noticed is the good ones are worth getting excited about. However, you can't just go and randomly pick one to eat at. Most of them are dirty, gross, and have horrible service. If you don't do your research, what you thought was going to be a wonderful dining experience can easily turn into a horrible one. My girlfriend likes to "try" new places, and we have been to a bunch of nasty places in the process. The good ones are truly great, the awful ones are worse than you can imagine. Yelp is your friend!

Good points and I agree with the distinction between "full service" and "sit down."
