This is a little surprising...

"The very same day that the Georgia Legislature adjourned, the GOP-heavy Fayette County Commission passed a resolution condemning Republican efforts in the state Capitol to remake Democrat-laden Fulton County.

Steve Brown, chairman of the Fayette County Commission, kindly sent a copy of the resolution our way. It condemns not only the GOP effort to remake Fulton through a Republican-packed delegation, but also is critical of an unsuccessful effort by state Sen. Rick Jeffares, R-McDonough, to cut the pay and limit the authority of newly elected Henry County Commission Chairman Tommy Smith..."

This is actually great news. It's finally starting to reach areas outside I-285 that the State government's insistence on trying to marginalize the State's economic engine (Atlanta/Fulton County) is just plain stupid and will have all kinds of negative downstream effects.

We should let the Fulton County Commission govern Fayette.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

This is totally going to confuse the partisan types.

I haven't read anything yet TBH, but if the headline is right, I love it.

Reading over the poorly formatted statement makes me proud of my home county.

Quote:
Whereas, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners believes that local government is closest to the people and the most efficient and accountable form of government; and

......

Be it therefore resolved that the Board of Commissioners of Fayette County does hereby formally request to our Legislative Delegation and all members of the State Legislature that the practice of local legislation be reverted back to a process that benefits local counties and cities with the consent of the locally elected body. Be it further resolved, we formally request that our Legislative Delegation oppose or leave the chamber when bills are called for a vote that impede[s] the governance of Fulton, Clayton and Henry Counties, observing that obstructing government closest to the people and disregarding home rule is not in the best interest of the State of Georgia.
You have to give these guys credit. They voted not too long ago to oppose any fines imposed by ARC for not participating a regional transportation tax / plan. Basically demanding not to be forced to do something by outside forces. Then they go and stick to their guns and make a statement like this opposing what is essentially their own party.

Supporting the "opposing side" out of respect for upholding a principle they exercised themselves earlier is absolutely commendable. I love it when people ignore party lines and do what is right.

May the political party system die a horrible painful death.
