What's the deal with this area? It's like night and day compared to Central and Northern Midtown... no residences, no street activity, Peachtree kinda of loses it's luster after the Fox for about a mile.

Helpful map of location:

Even the Midtown alliance doesn't focus on this area. It's known as SoNo and it's honestly one of the worst areas of the core. Hardly any residential towers or apartments...you have a big BoA tower taking up a whole block due to it's suburban-like development. You have no restaurants in the area...you have Emory which is another suburban like development in the city core. The only positive things that even puts that area to light would be Glady and Knight's chicken and biscuits which gets a lot of customers. And did I forget a huge shelter that everyone wants gone, but clearly hasn't left yet. Why would anyone want to develop in an area full of vagrants and homeless people? That intersection is just crazy...

It's very reminiscent to how Five points and south downtown is to northern downtown itself. For some reason, Atlanta has this pattern of where the southerns part of a particular area or district is terrible and the northern parts is good. Think about it. Start with the core:

1)Compare South downtown to north downtown.
2)Compare south midtown to north midtown.
3)Compare Northern Atlanta to southern Atlanta
4)Compare the northern metro with the southern metro.

SoNo is technically in Downtown. North Ave being the boundary https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Downt...orgia&t=m&z=13.
In short it is the Peachtree-Pine shelter.

Yes, I think this is important because you actually have quite a few residents between North and Ponce and everyone from North Ave northward is part of Midtown Alliance. And with the new apartment building going up at north and Piedmont/Juniper you will have nearly another 300 residences. No doubt the section south of North Ave needs help but it seems it could be primed for improvement if the shelter ever shuts down. About the only nicer or newer development in that area is the Reynolds condo building across from BOA which still has empty retail spaces.

I feel sorry for BoA workers. Where the hell do they eat at? There are almost no eateries in the area. Compare that to Peachtree Center or 14th Str. Really sad how that area is, especially since it's on the main street of Atlanta.

I think it's the interstate and lack of condos/apartments. They also need to tear down: Pine street shelter, Boisfeullet Jones Civic center, most of the housing on Parkway and Boulevard (or at least make the residents pay market value) - that would be a good start.

As a resident in this area I obviously disagree that the area is sad and run down. Its got a lot more going on then you may realize. For lunch there are some options, granted it will probably be better once retail opens up at the Proton center. Octane Coffee has a spot right in BOA, Gyro's to Willies Burritos are blocks away as well as spots like Publix, P&P. 2 chinese places etc.

Varsity and the small shops across North avenue. There is also a large cafeteria right in the BOA building that serves all type of food for breakfast and lunch. In most cases, however, you are working your tongue out and don't have time to leave for lunch. LOL.
