Decatur is a great area as it is close to Emory and several other colleges so has a good ethnic diversity ratio. Only a few minutes from downtown when it's not rush hour.

All more reason to commute via MARTA.

No doubt. I deal with it daily. But if you don't have to go far, the bad effects are mitigated.

Wow! You deal with it daily - so there really is no solution, I assume? Well, great place to live and I agree with the other poster - all the more reason for Marta.

Just wanted to reassure OP a little. Apartments in Atlanta are not nearly as claustrophobic as they are in NYC. Many are townhouse style, so you could even find a little patio in the back for your dog. Nothing like my first NYC two bedroom--that was 100 sq ft!! Your price point will be tricky, but, still, you're going to get way more space for your $ here!

If the OP moves into in town 'hoods that were suggested such as Va-Hi and L5P, the apartments there are very small, old, with no amenities and the slightly nicer 2 beds start at around $1100-$1500. If they want space, more modern apartments and amenities, they will have to look in the burb or further north up Briarcliff and in Toco Hills.

What is OP? Thank you for the recommendations. I am very happy to be going back for more interviews on Monday. On my last visit it seemed like there were lots of great options in Atlanta. I loved it.
