Moving to Atlanta next month and need your help.

1. I'll be working in Little Five Points, which I've heard is a cool, but "different" area, so I'm curious about potential areas to live around that district-- but will commute if necessary based on recommendations.
2. Would like to RENT a 1-2 bedroom apt, home, townhome (no preference)
3. 1,000/month budget
4. safe area for a 24 year old, single female
5. public transit access is not of concern because I will have my car
6. Good mix of both urban and suburban is a plus (but will sway toward suburban if there is no happy medium)
7. I have been told that Decatur, GA is close to L5P and is quaint/safe, but still close enough to the city action. Your thoughts on that area?
8. If there are areas of town where young professionals tend to migrate, that would be great too. Not the bar hopping party animal type, but wouldn't mind being in an area known for sophisticated young adult mingling spots.

I will get a chance to visit the city in a few weeks to get a feel for everything, but I still want to know where to start. (or where to avoid for that matter)

Thoughts? Thanks for your help!

Look for an apartment in Candler Park, Inman Park, or Little 5 Points. That will give you an easy peasy commute and put you in pretty nice areas.

Grant Park! The Burnett at Grant Park, specifically. It's close to L5P, nice, and the 1 BR apartments are within your price range. Includes all appliances, including washer/dryer. Gated parking, secure entry, pets allowed, etc.

It's on Confederate Avenue between Boulevard and Moreland, so you can hop on Moreland and be up in L5P within a few minutes (or get on Boulevard and have the option of taking I-20 a half mile, or Ponce de Leon, or Memorial, or Freedom Parkway, etc. to Moreland and have L5P right there).

Eh, having to cross I-20 on Moreland and/or Boulevard twice daily gets old. Spoken from experience. It's not miserable, but if there are alternatives that allow for avoiding it, I'd pursue those.

Several new apartments in Inman Park that offer any easy commute to L5P. Parking is an issue in L5P so living close would give you the option of walking or biking to work.
Also close is Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, Edgewood, Kirkwood, and Candler Park.

I do it multiple times a day and have never had to wait.

I don't see how that's possible. In the evenings traffic on Moreland is normally backed up down the hill towards Krikwood/Wylie trying to get across Memorial and I-20.

This morning I decided to time the trip to L5P, since I was driving through there on my way to Decatur for an appointment. I left my parking lot at 8:17, took I-20 to Moreland, and was at Camelli's at 8:25. Regardless of the time that I've made the trip, I've never had to wait long, and it's never taken more than 15 minutes, max, to get home from the Edgewood shopping center, even during the height of rush hour traffic (not counting the time it takes to actually exit the parking lot at Edgewood, lol). Granted, it takes a few minutes to get up to I-20, but after that, it's a breeze. It's not exactly gridlock, lol. Yeah, the traffic gets backed up, but it always moves pretty quickly. And considering the lack of apartments in the immediate area (especially ones within the OP's budget), unless the OP gets really lucky and can find a private rental within his/her budget, Grant Park is still a good option.

Nobody who knows their way around town would use Ponce as part of their route between Grant Park and L5P.
