Question: is the City of Atlanta still booming economically for Black-Americans?

I'm curious, because I used to hear about Atlanta frequently during the early 1990s and mid '90s. I don't seem to hear as many Black-Americans talking about it any more. However, I came across this article with a very quick google. It's a bit dated as its publish date is 2011.

This inquiry is not an attack on the great City of Atlanta, it's just an inquiry out of curiosity. That the article is dated 2011 is what really sparked my interest as that was just 2 years ago, and I had thought black migration from the North to the South into Atlanta had slowed down tremendously. But maybe I'm wrong?

Of course it is and will always be a constant market for African Americans, due to Atlanta being the capital of the South, and the largest number of African Americans in the United States resides in the southern states.

Yeah your wrong, it's still the best place to be for blacks. Lol. After I get my school loan payment under control I'll be moving back to atlanta. I recent received a job down atlanta that I turned down due to the school debt situation. In one year I'll be back home!

To an extent, but not like it used to be; this is because the job and housing markets in Atlanta are struggling to recover to pre-recession levels. So you still have healthy Black migration levels here, but there's also been quite a noticeable uptick in other cities like DC (which has long been one of the nation's bastions of African American life and culture), Houston, DFW, etc.

"The white percentage increased from 31% in 2000, to 35% in 2006, to 38% in 2010, more than double the increase between 1990 and 2000. During the same time, the city's black population decreased by 31,678 people, shrinking from 61.4% of the city's population in 2000 to 54.0% in 2010.*" -from Wikipedia. Atlanta is booming but blacks are leaving by the thousands. The Atlanta suburbs are gaining more black citizens though. In a few years the city of Atlanta will have a white majority and probably a white mayor as a result. I'm not promoting that, but I think it is inevitable. Anyone who saw our last election should agree. Norwood was an idiot and almost got elected.

Atlanta is losing blacks and gaining whites faster than any other city in America.

If I were black, I'd rather be in Atlanta than any other city.

At the MSA level, it's actually not inconceivable that Atlanta is the city with the largest black population in the country by 2040.

In this census cycle, Atlanta's black population grew by 500,000 to 1.7 million, while New York's declined by 100,000 to 3.2 million. Those trends could put Atlanta ahead of NYC in three decades--or at most four decades.

We just passed Chicago this last census cycle to become the #2 metro in terms of black population. Given how quickly the black population is growing in this country, it's actually pretty surprising how some big metros are seeing their black populations decline (NYC, LA, Chicago).

This post didn't sound racist at all for the record.

Lets reverse the races in the post. The ensuing outrage would have this thread locked in no time.

Post/thoughts like these are what keep everyone in the past.

To be clear I am not promoting it. I am not in the past but I see what is happening with the statistics. I should also make it clear that I would love to see Kasim Reed get elected again, I voted for Obama and I would gladly vote for Corey Booker if he ran. I stated the truth about what will probably happen. I absolutely do not support the racism behind all of it.
