That list might get a new entry at the top in 2019. DL is saying they’re going to add service to Mumbai and it will be from either JFK or ATL.

ATL-BOM is over 8,500 miles.

Yeah, that's a doozy of a flight. Still a solid 1k miles shorter than what will be the longest flight in the world at that point. Singapore Airlines is bringing back non-stop service from NYC to SIN. From EWR* it's >9,500 miles to SIN.

*I assume EWR because Star Alliance partner United has no gates at JFK and a strong hub at Newark.

They publicly stated they are replacing the MD-88s with 737s and A321. The prior order is almost fulfilled and the latter Delta has ordered a 100 for delivery starting in 2020.

The delayed Bombardier CS100 order will likely replace some of the longer routes the regional planes use to have.

One thing I think is happening is the routes can be suitable for the 321, but they are lowering the amount of regional aircraft they are operating overall in this same transition. I think they are readjusting routes and schedules to keep regional routes on slightly larger aircraft and less frequent.

Ultimately, it is just that much more efficient on a per passenger basis.

It will be interesting to see how routes change as the A321s are delivered and the MD88s are retired.
Delta is getting the small engine option and has stated in official filings that the average segment length for the CS100 will be under 1,000nm.

They used to have that flight. I took it in 2008 I believe. Quite a long one.

This is good news, thanks for sharing! We went there for the first time last Fall, on United via Denver both ways. I would definitely go back. They have one the coolest mid-sized terminals I've ever been through, most of it is open air. It's larger than I thought it was, with about 500,000 in the Valley.

Delta has also restarted an Oakland nonstop, and has added a second daily San Jose flight.

I flew the Oakland nonstop a couple times--I work more in the East Bay than SFO. It was horrible timing--a red eye on the way back, and the passengers were definitely more leisure/beach people than work people. Super easy upgrade, but there's no way Delta wasn't bleeding money on the flight. Probably just trying to make life difficult for Southwest.
