I didn't see this reported anywhere, but I noticed as I was booking a flight to Mexico that Aeromexico has apparently upgraded their daily service from a regional jet to a 737. Always good to get mainline service from a foreign flag carrier, esp since they just started the route last year. 35 x 737s per week between Atlanta and Mexico City is pretty nice service.

A couple new minor developments.

Delta is establishing an 8th weekly frequency to a number of Latin American markets.

OAG Changes 2/1/2014:AA/AS/DL — Civil Aviation Forum | Airliners.net

Aruba, Belize, Managua, Panama City, San Salvador, San Pedro Sula, and Tegucigalpa will all have a second Saturday-only flight from Atlanta. Starting to add second-daily flights to these sorts of markets is Atlanta's next big international move. So far we've gotten double-daily service to Guatemala City and Bogota. Hopefully some of these will be viable for double-daily service on a more regular basis.

In other news, there is now Saturday-only service to a new destination: St Maarten. Also, Delta will fly a fifth daily flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Also, Southwest now will fly the routes to Montego Bay and Aruba from Atlanta, instead of AirTran. I was somewhat worried they would nix them altogether, so that's somewhat of a good thing.

Good to hear Southwest keeping the international flights. I really don't like how they have cut some many domestic flights. From Q4 report Delta's Latin America traffic was up like 18%.

I got excited when I first read this title...until I read that if the "new" Eastern is formed it will be based in Miami. I think a lot of people miss the days when Eastern Airlines was in Atlanta.

Group files to bring back Eastern Air Lines - Jan. 30, 2014

Eastern was always based in Miami (well, starting in the mid 1970s...it was previously based in NYC).

They just had a large hub in Atlanta--maybe its largest.

I think some things should remain gone. It was such a tragedy on how the old Eastern ended. It hard to believe that at one time the old Eastern was the number carrier in the USA, but went belly up. Delta pretty much became the fortress and world largest mega hub after the old Eastern went bankrupt.

I often wonder what the old Eastern would be like today if it was operational. It offer widebody jet service just like Delta from Atlanta.

I noticed that Aeromexico seems to have eliminated Atlanta service, not long after upgauging to a 737. That's a shame.
