I started a post two days ago about an renting an apartment in Dunwoody. If my job works out I might try to purchase a house and start a family here. Although, reading on here about Dekalb county schools has me concerned. If the school systems are bad then I'm worried that the area will become sketchy because the educated population will move out. Is Dunwoody gonna start going downhill soon?

Dunwoody is so established, it would take an atomic bomb to displace it.

Aren't they trying to remove their schools from the county system?

I would not be worried about schools in Dunwoody. Whether apart of Dekalb or its own system. Parent involvement is off the charts.

The main issue with the schools in Dunwoody right now (elementary, in particular) is class size. I have a friend whose child had 31 kids in his third grade class (no assistant teacher). If your child is bright and self-motivated, that may not be a big deal to you. But if your child falls in the grey area between gifted and Special Ed, you may worry about him/her falling through the cracks and not getting needed assistance. There's been a lot of teacher turnover in the "desirable" schools the last few years due to these issues; teachers get burned out with so many kids! The schools are still desirable, but some are feeling disenchanted and applying out to private to avoid the class size issue.

ETA: the educated population is not moving out of Dunwoody itself to live elsewhere (in my view), but they may be moving their kids out of public and into private (a more sizable number than in years past).
