Run.

Even if they don't sign away the mineral rights if any of their neighbors did, that means they could do whatever they want on nearby land. They don't have to drill on YOUR particular land for YOUR groundwater to be affected, YOUR air to be polluted, you get the picture.

This is tremendously shady and I would definitely not feel comfortable living in an area where any of my neighbors had signed away their mineral rights to some company that has no vested interest in the neighborhood.

What good could possibly come of it? None. What bad? Plenty.

I wouldn't even push back, I'd just say thank you very much and move on.

It sounds standard for that company, but it sounds like a shady company looking at that article. Them having a mortgage subsidiary AND especially an energy subsidiary isn't a company I would want to deal with.

I am in full agreement. Also note that if enough neighbors DO give permission for it, they can use "forced pooling" to use your land anyway, whether you give permission or not.

Absolutely. A home builder with their own energy company? What could possibly go wrong? This just gives them ownership of free land to conduct their business at the expense of others. This sounds enormously shady. Does anyone think that D.R. Horton has any concern for the homeowner in this? Not a a chance.
