I noticed Smyrna added some back-lit street signs on new decorative posts on Spring Rd (e.g. Sports Ave). I've seen these in Dallas and parts of Florida (like Farmers Branch and Frisco, TX, etc) but , but is this a first for metro Atlanta?

I didn't have time to take a picture, but it's basically a square sign hung on the decorative light posts with the Smyrna logo (kind of like you see along Ashford-Dunwoody in Perimeter CID) but that lights up at night.

Edit: It looks like Ashford Dunwoody has wires going into them, so I imagine they light up too. I just must have never been on it at night.

I was in too much of a hurry to snap a photo (and it's a bit treacherous right there w/ all the construction) but here's some screenshots of the examples in Texas, though Smyrna's is much prettier. You should see them at night too.

Day time photos barely do these kinds of signs any justice. I'll try to get a night time one w/ Google Earth.

I feel like I have seen them somewhere else in the metro, not sure where. It makes for a nice polished look

I just did Google maps for Ashford Dunwoody and it looks like those actually light up since I see lights going into them. I just haven't seen them at night, I guess.

The ones going up in Smyrna are basically the same kinda thing, just on Cumberland/Vinings style decorative black posts instead of the tarnished copper look.

Btw: See also //www.city-data.com/forum/atlan...d-lci-arc.html for related topic about Spring Rd ARC

Sandy Springs has had lighted street signs on most of its major intersections for a few years now.

Perimeter Center has or had them.

There are some in both Clayton and Henry counties, and even a couple in Fayetteville I believe. I don't know why they are so inconsistent. It might be an individual development thing. Wiring and maintaining lighted overhead street signs at every intersection no doubt is expensive.

They're not inconsistent in Sandy Springs. I'd say 80-90% of traffic signals there now have the lighted signs.

They look good. Wonder if we'll be getting them in the COA?

Not in any of our lifetimes. COA isnt going to spend the money for something nice like that. They are currently replacing the lights on Memorial Dr. Their replacing the wires with metal poles but they're the basic generic ugly kind.
