Is this an issue in Atlanta neighborhoods? If so, how are you resolving it?

Who parked in my spot?!: Neighbors, cars, and “your” curb space | Grist

People feel the spot directly in front of their residents is theirs. I'm sure this is more of an issue in Midtown than the other SFH neighborhoods of Atlanta.

I have wondered how the folks who live around Piedmont Park feel about it. Many times all the spaces in front of people's houses are filled up for several blocks away, often with cars that are not from Fulton county.

I saw lots of these arguments when I lived in NYC. There are def. areas in Atlanta where it is also hard to park. In my opinion (and as written in the law), the street is a public place. Therefore, if there is a legit parking spot open (one with no "no parking" or "residents only" signs) on the street, anybody has the right to park there, not just the person who owns the house in front of said street. If people don't like others to park in front of their house, they should not have bought that house. If people have too many cars to fit in their driveway, and need to park on a street that they know others park on, then they should not have bought that second or third car.

People need to get off their high horse and deal with the consequences of their decisions. You bought a house on a busy public street, you can't stop people from parking there.

What do you think about people parking there who don't live in your city and pay taxes like you do?

How come they get to park for free in front of your residence, while you are the one paying for it and the one who has to schlep their groceries 8 blocks in the 93 degree heat?

I think people should follow the law. If there is no law, meaning no "no parking" signs for any reason, then those people have just as much a right to park there as I do. If I go to another city, I also expect to be able to park where I want on a public street if there is no law saying that I cannot do so. There are plenty of times that there are a ton of people parked in front of my house for various events in the neighborhood, and while it may be frustrating if I have friends coming over (more for the friends than for me), I have no right to abuse somebody else's property or get angry.

When I moved into my urban neighborhood that boasts lots of events, I fully knew that there would be occasions that people from outside my neighborhood, county, or even state would park on the street. It's their right to do so. If the citizens of any city have a problem with that, then they should push the city to create new ordinances (ie: resident parking only), but until they do that, they should not buy somewhere if they care so strongly about their right to own a public spot.

What a lot of people don't realize is several of those blocks are permit parking. Cars that don't have a local parking permit face the wrath of ParkAtlanta.

It is a tremendous pain on summer weekends and during Park events. I know that the curb space in front of the house isn't "mine" per se. But, it would be considerate if folks used the parking garage in the park.

With the resident only permits they do limit how much visitors can park in the residential area just south of 10th street. What's really confusing is it seems like not all the streets there are uniform in the times and parking rules.

CC, you are a good soul.

Would you mind PM'ing me your address so that the next time I'm over your way I will know I have a free parking space where I am welcome at all times? I promise I will only give it to select friends.
